One full month into the new school year enrollment totals are in with the four area districts reporting a combined increase of 28 students. Giltner Public Schools showed the biggest gain, up 32 students, while Aurora Public Schools had 12 more students enrolled and Hampton Public Schools six more.

Lady Hornets pick up big win on championship night

On a night where Giltner honored its champions, the current Hornet volleyball team rose to the challenge.  After a slow start, Giltner charged ahead to defeat conference foe Nebraska Lutheran in four, 22-25, 25-16, 25-16 and 25-20 Thursday night.

Physical rushing attack lifts Giltner to first win

Giltner’s offensive game plan sure wasn’t complicated, but it certainly was effective.  Behind a potent rushing attack, the Hornets earned its first win of the season, 59-20 over Nebraska Lutheran on Homecoming night.

Giltner board approves ’21-22 budget

The Giltner School Board approved its budget for the 2021-22 school year during Monday’s regular monthly meeting, while also hearing concerns with statements made by local citizens at last month’s meeting regarding a lack of board transparency.  The tax levy went up 5 percent from last year’s rate.
The statue “Waiting for the Bus” and flag pole were given in memory of Cletus Kothe by his family. Kothe drove bus for the Giltner school for 52 years and passed away in 2020.

Hornets lose track of Huskies in season opener

Coming into the season, Giltner wanted to change its identity to more of a smash-mouth, hard-hitting football team.  The Hornets had opportunities Friday night, but too many mistakes and mental errors set Giltner behind the 8-ball in a 52-14 loss to Heartland on its home field.
Hamilton County will now be served by two ladder trucks at the Aurora and Giltner fire departments. Aurora passed off its green 65-foot ladder truck to Giltner Fire Chief Brad Consbruck (left) last week, and Aurora Fire Chief Tom Cox welcomed a 100-foot ladder truck to the Aurora fleet.

Thanks to conversation between friends and a special program offered by the Nebraska (and U.S) Forest Service, both the Aurora and Giltner volunteer fire departments received new pieces to their firefighting fleet. The exchange took place Aug. 18, much to the appreciation of both departments.
A single-car rollover accident was reported just before noon on Aug. 10, leaving a pair of occupants with injuries and one in critical condition, according to law enforcement.

Hamilton County Sheriffs officers were called to an accident on M Road just before noon Aug. 10 for a one-vehicle rollover accident.  Two teens, a brother and sister, were injured, one critical, in the rollover accident three miles southwest of Aurora, according to law enforcement.
