Volleyball subdistricts set

Area volleyball teams will begin their respective postseason runs Monday, culminating with potential state tickets to be punched on Halloween.  Aurora (20-11) will compete in the B-6 subdistrict and earned the No. 2 seed, taking on No. 3 GINW (15-14) at York Tuesday with a 7 p.m. start time. No.

Hixson nets 500th career win

Aurora coach Lois Hixson hit a career milestone Tuesday night.  As the Lady Huskies defeated Omaha Gross Catholic, the win marked the 500th career victory for Hixson. Aurora defeated Omaha Gross 25-17 and 25-13 while also dropping a contest to Omaha Skutt, 25-12 and 25-10.

Huskies misfire in late-game loss to Grand Island Northwest

Over the course of its five-game win streak, Aurora has excelled on money downs and late-game situations. Grand Island Northwest bested Aurora Friday at its own game.  The Vikings made the short 30-minute trip across the Platte and used a late-game touchdown to defeat the Huskies 36-29 Friday night.

Darbro competes in 3rd state golf meet out west

Lady Huskies take runner-up at district meet in Minden

The Aurora girls cross country team walked away as runner-ups at the C-4 District Meet in Minden Thursday. Only five points separated the runners from the top position as they secured their place at  Friday’s state competition in Kearney.

CRC tourney updates

High Plains and Hampton each began CRC tournament runs Saturday at York High School.  The Lady Storm began its tournament with a thrilling 25-21 and 25-23 win over Shelby-Rising City, moving on to the quarterfinals to take on Exeter-Milligan.

Friday night roundup week 8

Aurora's win streak was snapped at five Friday night after a third straight top 10 matchup, this time against Grand Island Northwest.  The Vikings scored the go-ahead with a minute to play as Aurora's final drive ended on downs.
