The Aurora Post 42 Legion baseball season began May 24 as the Aurora Cooperative Juniors have posted a 3-0 start while the Pinnacle Bank Seniors have battled, but are still looking for its first win.

Triple trouble

Kaitlyn Staehr nearly had a mental breakdown during Thursday’s Class B triple jump. Her first two jumps were scratches and her third was only enough to squeak into the finals by three inches. Staehr took off from there, though, hitting a new best mark of 38-1.

Jayden Slagle was the top dog in Class B's triple jump all season long and that didn't change at Omaha Burke Stadium.The Husky senior won gold in Wednesday's Class B triple jump event, going 47-4.25 to cap off his high school career.

Jayden Slagle already had the best triple jump in the state of Nebraska this spring. The Husky senior quite possibly put a new mark out of reach for everyone else and now has sights on a potential state record at Burke Stadium.Slagle cleared 49-6.

Lady Hornets claim district title

Giltner coach Nancy Lockmon said the Hornets didn’t show up to Kenesaw last week to win a district title. The goal was to get as many kids to Omaha as possible. The Hornets ended up doing both.

Area state track qualifiers

Unofficially, the Hamilton County area is sending 33 athletes to next week's state track and field championships to Burke Stadium. The Huskies feature a total of 12 state qualifiers, six apiece on the boys and girls side.
