Huskies find shooting touch

Carsen Staehr’s efforts Saturday may be proof of Aurora’s recent offensive woes clearly in the rear-view mirror.  Staehr had a career day, bagging 27 points on nine of 12 shooting while going a perfect six of six from three-point range as the Huskies downed Lexington 72-50 on its home floor.

Huskies stumble in tournament rematch with Seward

Seward did it again. For the second time in as many weeks, the Aurora boys basketball team had no answer for the Bluejays as Seward took down the top-seeded Huskies 49-33 in the semifinals of the Central Conference tournament Thursday in Seward’s home gym.

Don’t look now but Aurora’s girls wrestlers are peaking at the right time.  During the first-ever Central Conference girls tournament, the Lady Huskies featured three individual champions and a third place effort as a team at Saturday’s event held at Lakeview high school.

Central City’s Invitational featured plenty of high stakes and heavy-hitting matches.  The Huskies were right in the thick of it with four wrestlers in the finals, two of those winners and a fourth place effort at the 16-team event Saturday.

For the second time in as many duals, Jack Allen was in the finale spot and stole the show.  The Aurora junior scrambled for a third-period pinfall victory as part of Aurora’s dual matchup at Columbus Lakeview Thursday, an event the Vikings won 40-34.

Lady Huskies end 2021 with battle at Lakeview

Aurora’s girls wrestling team finished off the 2021 calendar year in style.  The Lady Huskies picked up its second dual win in as many weeks, defeating Columbus Lakeview 36-24 Thursday.

Aurora went into its final contest before the holiday break at Norris with nothing to lose and everything to gain. It was the exact opposite for Class B No. 2 Norris.  The Lady Huskies played like it, too.
