Central City’s Invitational featured plenty of high stakes and heavy-hitting matches.
The Huskies were right in the thick of it with four wrestlers in the finals, two of those winners and a fourth place effort at the 16-team event Saturday.
Britton Kemling at 160, Brekyn Papineau at 182, Mack Owens at 195 and Aaron Jividen at 285 were all finalists for Aurora at the Central City event with Owens and Jividen coming out with gold.
Aurora coach Derek Keasling was happy with how that foursome competed throughout the day, noting Owens’ improvement in several areas was on full display Saturday.
“Mack wrestled extremely well and put together a complete match in the finals,” Keasling said. “He has vastly improved this year on the mat and we are feeling more and more comfortable with him in the top position. Usually he breaks guys in neutral but he broke his opponents spirit on the mat and that was fun to see.”
