A tough opening weekend of the high school football season for several area teams.  Aurora had its troubles on the road at Class A's North Platte while Giltner and Hampton each dropped home contests. High Plains led late, but lost a heartbreaker on the road at Lawrence-Nelson.

Lady Huskies drop pair in Norris

Aurora had a tough ask to begin its 2021 season.  The preseason Class B No. 8 Lady Huskies were on the road, taking on Class B No. 2 Norris as well as Class C-1 No. 2 Wahoo in a triangular played in Norris Thursday night.

Captain Oz sure has a nice ring to it.  Austin Allen made it no secret since spring ball that his goal was to become a captain for the Nebraska football team.  A young man who has so many Nebraska youth looking up to him, both literally and figuratively, proved achieving your goals is possible.

Fans of the home run ball got their monies worth at Aurora's season-opener Thursday night.  Taryn McKinney hit a pair of moon shots while fellow senior Rylee Olsen added a third as the Lady Huskies earned a 15-6 win over Lexington to start the 2021 season on the right foot.

Husky rally!

Aurora held its annual fall pep rally ahead of the sports season set to begin later this week.  Husky fans, athletes and other activities groups gathered at the football field Tuesday to celebrate the start of the fall sports calendar.

This will be Scott Frost’s fourth season in Lincoln, but he’ll try to even up his opening day record to 2-2 after losing at Ohio State a year ago by the score of 52-17. He’ll do so at Illinois on Aug. 28 with a fourth year starter at quarterback and numerous five-year super seniors on defense.

Allen speaks to Aurora Rotary

“How’s it going, Oz?” The voice Austin Allen heard through the zoom call was all too familiar. The Aurora native has heard it quite a bit in his lifetime.  The smile that came over his face when his former coach asked him a question was all that needed to be said.
