HPC Storm defeat Hampton in area showdown last week
Storm, Hawks compete at Meridian triangular Oct. 5
A quick start was all High Plains needed last week.
Coming off a few days off, the Storm looked fresh in a two-set win over Hampton at the Meridian triangular, 25-20 and 25-20. Both the Hawks and Storm lost to the hosts, Meridian.
Hampton scored the opening three points of the first set and led 6-2 after a Lillian Dose ace serve.
HPC answered with its own 4-0 run, including an Alexis Kalkwarf kill and Gordona Howell ace to tie the set at 6-all.
Kylie Mersch helped Hampton hang onto the lead for a bit longer, but HPC grabbed its first lead at 10-9 before a Courtney Carlstrom block and Emily Ackerson ace gave HPC a 13-9 lead and forced a Hampton timeout.
From there, Neveah Lukassen recorded a kill as well as two ace serves before a Dose attack as part of a 5-0 run that tied the set at 14-all.
