Huskies bounce back at UNK

After a tough race in Malcolm last week, the Huskies emerged in the runner-up spot at Monday’s UNK Invite.Charlie Evans paced Aurora, finishing fourth with a time of 17:17.32 while Jayden Slagle added an 11th place effort.

Homecoming night across Hamilton County provided plenty of fireworks.The loud ovation just short of 10 p.m. Friday was the Huskies getting into the win column, rallying from a 28-0 deficit to defeat Grand Island Northwest, 36-35.

Londyn Teahon hadn’t yet swung a softball bat the last time Aurora defeated Northwest on the diamond.The Aurora sophomore’s gigantic at-bat last week sank the Vikings’ perfect battleship and fueled what could be a magical second half of the season for the Huskies.

Lady Huskies claim title at Central City

It was golden day for the Lady Huskies cross country team as Aurora came back as champions of the Central City Invite.Aurora coach Tony Sigler commented that he was proud of the team’s overall success scoring 27 points.“The girls ran really competitive today,” Sigler said.

Hornets win three at home

The Giltner volleyball team kept it rolling last week, winning three of four to improve its record to 6-5 on the season.It started with a pair of 2-0 sweeps at home Sept. 17, defeating both Newman Grove/St. Edward and Elba.

It was a tough night on the gridiron as all four Hamilton County teams faced road trips near the halfway point of the 2024 season.Aurora falls to 0-4 on the season as Columbus Scotus scored four second half touchdowns to down the Huskies, 42-28.

Hampton and Giltner renewed its rivalry on the volleyball floor Thursday in the night cap of triangular play.The Hornet offense bested a solid Hawk defense as Giltner won the match in two, 25-22 and 25-12.

It had been a challenging week both physically and mentally for the Aurora boys cross country team capped with  a highly emotional run at home Friday.Charlie Evans was the first of the Huskies to finish and top non-Hastings runner across the line in fourth with a time of 17:26.

Friday the 13th wasn't a good night on the gridiron for most of our area football teams.Just one of the four area teams picked up a win during week three action, that being the Hampton Hawks with a shutout in its home opener.
