The Aurora softball team was unable to find the magic upset Thursday, losing a 12-2 game to Norris in the B-7 district to end its season.

Julia Messere and Delainey Phillips both earned medals at every meet they competed in this year and the duo did it again Tuesday, but this time the hardware came with the bonus of qualifying for next week’s two-day state golf meet in Scottsbluff.

Storm defense rumbles in Homecoming win

It was a rivalry win and Homecoming success all wrapped into one for High Plains Friday night. The Storm earned its third win of the 2025 season, downing Giltner 80-34 in what was at times a wild shoot out, including 70 combined first-half points.

The Aurora girls golf team earned a third place team finish at the Central Conference meet Friday in Schuyler, then travelled all the way to Nebraska City Monday to tee it up in district competition, only to be rained out and forced to return on Tuesday.

Aurora pitched a shutout Friday night at Adams Central, holding an opponent scoreless for the first time since 2019 while posting a 34-0 district win on the road for the Huskies third victory in a row.

Friday night roundup week 6

Three area teams picked up wins Friday night as the regular season moves into October.Aurora went on the road for a second week in a row and looked dominant doing so, shutting out Adams Central, 34-0.The Huskies (3-3) led 20-0 at the half, including a 99-yard drive as one of those TDs.

Huskies finish fourth at conference tourney

The Aurora softball team nearly pulled a wild upset Thursday in the Central Conference tournament semifinals, leading eventual champion Grand Island Northwest until the final moments as the Vikings scored nine unanswered for a 9-7 victory.

Hive alive! Hornets rally in five

It’s been eight years since Giltner won a five-set match. That is, until Thursday night. The Hornets rallied in the fourth and fifth sets to earn one of its biggest wins in years, defeating Pleasanton 20-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-21 and 15-10.
Aurora sophomore Sam Jones (14) made a pivotal play in the third quarter against Northwest, returning a kickoff to the Viking 22 after the Huskies had fallen behind 21-13. “Who would have thought he would be the kick returner that made such a big play,” coach Kyle Peterson said of Jones’ return. “I don’t think he’s probably ever returned a kick in his life, but what a spark for us.”

Down by eight points in the third quarter, Aurora dropped the hammer on Northwest Friday, exploding for 21 unanswered points to win the trophy game battle with the rival Vikings for the fifth consecutive year.

Huskies spoil Northwest’s hall of fame night

On a night when their head coach was celebrated and forever etched into Northwest history, the Aurora volleyball team rallied.Despite dropping the initial set, the Huskies caught fire to defeat Northwest for the first time since 2021 in four sets, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21 and 25-23.
