Monday’s Hamilton County Board of Commissioners meeting featured another coronavirus related update, as commissioners took a joint stand by passing Resolution No. 1113, encouraging Hamilton County residents to wear masks, practice social distancing and wash their hands regularly.

Hamilton County Emergency Manager Kirt Smith didn’t have great news when giving county commissioners another COVID-19 update during Monday’s weekly meeting.  Cases are ramping up again, much as predicted.  “As you know things are kind of looking worse,” Smith began.

The Aurora City Council heard a Central District Health Department COVID-19 report and approved a few action items during a brief meeting Nov. 10. Councilman Dick Phillips, who sits in on CDHD meetings as the council’s representative, reported that the latest COVID-19 numbers are not good.

Giltner residents echoed the statewide support for gambling initiatives in the Nov. 3 General Election, voting to approve keno in the community. The Giltner Village Board had been asked to put the issue up to a vote, thus it was on the ballot with a simple majority decision to determine the outcome.

Historically rich in more ways the one can count, Hamilton County has seen many milestone moments in its history -- including touches on the crusade for women’s right to vote. A rather small file in a large filing cabinet at the Plainsman Museum in Aurora is unassumingly titled “Women’s Suffragate.
