He was a good soldier. He was a good man. He was the best at his job and this is what made him a target.
Capt. Robert Yllescas, late husband to Aurora resident Dena Yllescas-Johnston and father to recent Husky graduate Julia Yllescas, was killed by Afghan insurgents in 2008.

Citywide garage sale draws 56 participants

Bargain hunters were out in mass Friday and Saturday throughout Aurora enjoying the third annual citywide garage sales event.
Co-coordinator Jill Held said she and Angie Vetter have always enjoyed garage sales and decided in 2018 to launch a citywide effort.

Steenson selected for UNK Teachers Scholars Academy

Forty students will receive full-tuition scholarships to attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney as members of the Teachers Scholars Academy.
These recent high school graduates represent 33 communities in Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas. Their average ACT score is 23.
