Hampton and Giltner squared off for a good old fashioned cross-county CRC showdown in the regular season finale Friday, with the visiting Lady Hawks claiming a 45-30 victory.

The Giltner boys gave the home crowd something to cheer about on senior night Friday, posting the sixth win of the season with a convincing 53-30 victory over Hampton.

Giltner Speech tackles changes with virtual meets

Cacia Barnes, speech coach at Giltner High School shared her thoughts on how the season has changed for her 11 students. “The changes we’ve had to make this speech season are maintaining six-feet of distance between one another at practice and wearing masks,” she said.

Giltner rolls to CRC opening win over Hampton

An area matchup highlighted the opening round of the CRC tournament before the second half of the schedule was cut short with impending weather. Giltner and Hampton squared off Saturday in the CRC tournament played at Shelby as Giltner’s defense held tough in a 40-11 win over the Hawks.

Giltner put Osceola in a position to work a bit harder for a win than they may have thought, at least for awhile.  The Hornets were tied with the No. 8 D-2 ranked Bulldogs after the first quarter, but Osceola was too much for Giltner to handle in a 51-35 loss Friday night.

Second half rally, late stops lift Giltner to home win

Jacob Smith almost single-handedly kept Giltner within striking distance to help the Hornets keep its unbeaten mark.  The Hornet junior scored a game-high 23 points on 10 of 13 shooting to help Giltner defeat Nebraska Lutheran 40-37 Dec. 15 at home.

Smith, Hornets begin season 2-0

Giltner’s offense scored more points in the opening half against High Plains than it did the entire game the night before at Harvard.  Nevertheless, the Hornets began the season 2-0 with a pair of road victories.

Questions remain on Giltner keno

Giltner residents echoed the statewide support for gambling initiatives in the Nov. 3 General Election, voting to approve keno in the community. The Giltner Village Board had been asked to put the issue up to a vote, thus it was on the ballot with a simple majority decision to determine the outcome.

Area schools post enrollment

One month into the new school year enrollment totals are in with the four area districts reporting a combined decrease of 69 students. Hampton Public Schools reported the only increase, up 11 students, with Aurora, Giltner and High Plains Community Schools dropping by a combined 80 students.
