Teachers, administration and staff from Aurora, Giltner, Hampton and Hampton Lutheran gathered at the Plainsman Museum Monday afternoon for a celebration lunch to kick off the coming school year. Towards the end of the meal, Tina Larson, museum director shared words of thanks to those in attendance.

Citizens raise concerns with Giltner school

Several Giltner residents made their voices heard during Monday’s monthly school board meeting.  A variety of topics were raised by concerned patrons, from the proposed state health standards to potential issues within the school and its board of education.

Giltner native Lyle Reab was killed in action while fighting in Germany during WWII. After his previously unidentified remains were officially tied to Reab, the journey started to get this WWII hero home.

Giltner child care facility expanding in size, capacity

The Little Stingers Childcare Program in Giltner is expecting to nearly double its capacity this week, from 40 to 70, by expanding its facility with the addition of a modular building being transported from Grand Island.

Several Hornets hit PR marks at state competition

While Giltner’s state championship streak came to an end over the weekend, its flag flew proudly one last time as several Hornets set new PRs.  Of Giltner’s four athletes who competed at Omaha Burke, two of them set new personal records while a third tied a previous best mark.

Hornets punch five tickets to state track meet in Omaha

One thing that had Giltner assistant track coach Chip Bartos smiling from ear to ear last week was the turnout from the Hornet boys in the throws.  At day’s end, two Giltner boys qualified for state in the throws while the Lady Hornets added a couple representatives as well.

Giltner graduation set for Sunday afternoon

The Giltner Class of 2021 will cross the stage and receive a diploma Sunday as the first of area graduation ceremonies.  Commencement exercises will begin at 2 p.m. in the east high school gym in Giltner. Supt. Nick Mumm announced there will be 15 graduating seniors in this year’s class.

Area tracksters compete at High Plains Invite last week

For the first time this season, the area trio of Giltner, Hampton and High Plains were all in action at the same place at the same time.  The Hornets, Hawks and Storm competed at the High Plains Invite hosted at Osceola’s track April 14 with several solid performances all around.

Hornets struggle in season-ending loss to Heartland Lutheran

A sour night offensively spelled the end of Giltner’s basketball run.  The Hornets struggled with turnovers and scoring for much of the night as Heartland Lutheran picked up a 43-32 win over Giltner Feb. 23 in the D2-7 subdistrict tournament.
