Hampton wins cross-county tilt in regular season finale
Hampton and Giltner squared off for a good old fashioned cross-county CRC showdown in the regular season finale Friday, with the visiting Lady Hawks claiming a 45-30 victory.
The setting was anything but normal, with lingering pandemic protocol forcing many in the crowd to wear masks, and bitter cold temperatures causing problems which delayed the opening tip-off. Hampton’s bus broke down in the frigid weather, prompting a mid-trip transfer to a second bus, and a later start time.
“We knew it was going to be a battle tonight on the court, but more than that we had big-time bus troubles and didn’t even get here until 5 o’clock,” Hampton coach Margo LaBrie said after the game. “I was worried about that, just mentally, that the girls wouldn’t be in it and I think that happened.”
