HPC wrestlers earn four gold medals at Conestoga Invite

In its first tournament of the season, High Plains showed some serious potential in the brackets.  The Storm rallied to a fifth place team finish with four first-place medals at Saturday’s Conestoga Invite.

Jividen set to take wrestling skills to Concordia U

Aaron Jividen made it official last week, announcing his plans to continue his wrestling career as a Bulldog at Concordia University. The Aurora senior recently wrapped up a stellar athletic career wearing Husky red, though he actually had a decision to make whether to pursue wrestling or football.

Mack Owens promised a return to the state finals a year ago after finishing as runner-up.  The Aurora senior made good on that promise, although the end result didn’t change.

It’s been an emotional, successful and all-around roller coaster ride for Aaron Jividen’s senior wrestling season.  Those emotions came together at once Saturday night, competing in the Class B heavyweight finals of the state wrestling championships.

Brekyn Papineau was beat up and bruised. His shoulder was in a wrap.  But coach Derek Keasling knew that there was no way Papineau, even in rough shape, wouldn’t go out and give it 100 percent for his final match.

She has a smile more infectious than any disease and a competitive spirit to move any mountain.  Aurora’s first-ever girls wrestling finalist in the history books is a foreign exchange student from Norway, just giving the sport of wrestling a try for the fun of it.  Crazy, right?

HPC Storm wrestlers sending four to state championships

High Plains has been battle tested all year long. Those experiences paid off over the weekend.  The Storm punched four tickets to this week’s Class D boys state wrestling tournament with a seventh place effort at the D-2 district meet in Pleasanton.
