Second half rally, late stops lift Giltner to home win

Jacob Smith almost single-handedly kept Giltner within striking distance to help the Hornets keep its unbeaten mark.  The Hornet junior scored a game-high 23 points on 10 of 13 shooting to help Giltner defeat Nebraska Lutheran 40-37 Dec. 15 at home.

Lady Huskies come up short against area foes

Aurora’s first home game of the season didn’t quite go to plan.  The Lady Huskies struggled to stay consistent on offense and didn’t have enough in the tank to chase down Grand Island Northwest in a 50-31 loss Saturday.

Huskies post 2-0 mark on rivalry weekend

Aurora's boys basketball team took care of business over the weekend.  In a pair of rivalry games, the Huskies won a road contest at York 44-33 Friday night before running past Grand Island Northwest at home 52-30 Saturday night.

Huskies, Storm compete in Platteview

Both Aurora and High Plains were in action Friday afternoon at the Platteview Duals tournament.  The Huskies had a solid day on the mats, finishing runner-up in the 16-team event.

Despite a cancelled 2020 season and missed opportunities all around, Daniel Elge never stopped working.  All those efforts were paid off last week, as the Aurora senior signed a letter of intent to continue his academic and track and field career at Wayne State College at the Div. II level.

Late-game heroics from Hornet hoops

The Giltner boys and girls basketball teams came up big in late game scenarios Tuesday night.  The boys team fended off a last-second shot to defeat Nebraska Lutheran 40-37 while the Lady Hornets needed overtime to defeat the Knights, 39-34.

Hawks continue search for elusive first win of season

Hampton continues its search for the first win of the year after falling to taller teams from Osceola and Heartland over the weekend.  Coach Kyle Ediger said he’s seen bursts of solid play from his young team and is pleased with the attitude on game night as well as during practice.

Hampton girls pushed the pace from the opening tip Friday in a home tilt against Osceola, scoring a season-high 61 points to chalk up the first win of the year.

Watching Saturday’s Nebraska-Minnesota game had my insides feeling like the outside temperature and my personal version of the good, the bad and the ugly.  Let’s start with the positive, because it’s going to get a lot worse from here. The good: Austin Allen, pride of Aurora, finally found pay dirt.
