Kuehner recovers from mishap to pace Lady Husky efforts

It was an uphill battle from the start Friday, literally and figuratively, for Aurora’s girls cross country team.  After a crash near the start involving Aurora’s Elena Kuehner, the race restarted and the Lady Huskies fought through adversity until the finish line.

Huskies take fifth in razor-close Class C race

The competition in the Class C boys cross country race was five teams deep, and that showed up in the team tally at the end.  Milford ended the chilly Friday afternoon at Kearney Country Club on top of Class C while the top five teams were separated by just 17 points.

Aurora earned the No. 5 seed in the 2020 Class B playoffs, setting up a rematch with No. 5 Scottsbluff Friday night.  The Huskies and Bearcats played during week three of the regular season with Aurora earning its first win of the year at the time, 36-14.

Aurora controlled the ball and time of possession in the second half, picking up a 24-13 win at Seward Friday night to round out the regular season.

Temperatures plummeted into the 30s Friday for the state cross country meet in Kearney, but didn't slow down the runners on the clock. Aurora senior Dylan Riley finished his Husky career with a 9th place finish in the Class C race, breaking the tape with a time of 17:04.3.

Volleyball subdistricts set

Area volleyball teams will begin their respective postseason runs Monday, culminating with potential state tickets to be punched on Halloween.  Aurora (20-11) will compete in the B-6 subdistrict and earned the No. 2 seed, taking on No. 3 GINW (15-14) at York Tuesday with a 7 p.m. start time. No.

Hixson nets 500th career win

Aurora coach Lois Hixson hit a career milestone Tuesday night.  As the Lady Huskies defeated Omaha Gross Catholic, the win marked the 500th career victory for Hixson. Aurora defeated Omaha Gross 25-17 and 25-13 while also dropping a contest to Omaha Skutt, 25-12 and 25-10.
The Aurora Huskies football team played well over the weekend, though their efforts were not enough to secure the win.

Huskies misfire in late-game loss to Grand Island Northwest

Over the course of its five-game win streak, Aurora has excelled on money downs and late-game situations. Grand Island Northwest bested Aurora Friday at its own game.  The Vikings made the short 30-minute trip across the Platte and used a late-game touchdown to defeat the Huskies 36-29 Friday night.

Darbro competes in 3rd state golf meet out west

Lady Huskies take runner-up at district meet in Minden

The Aurora girls cross country team walked away as runner-ups at the C-4 District Meet in Minden Thursday. Only five points separated the runners from the top position as they secured their place at  Friday’s state competition in Kearney.
