Husky trio make finals

Aurora pushed three wrestlers through to the finals Saturday morning at the state wrestling championships.  Caden Svoboda at 106, Trevor Kluck at 145 and Mack Owens at 182 all punched tickets to tonight's state wrestling finals after wins this morning.

Aurora put five wrestlers into the semifinals while six of its seven participants are still alive after the first day of the Class B state wrestling championships Friday from the CHI Health Center in Omaha.

Lady Hawks use pressure to overpower Hornets

Hampton and Giltner squared off for a good old fashioned cross-county CRC showdown in the regular season finale Friday, with the visiting Lady Hawks claiming a 45-30 victory.

The Giltner boys gave the home crowd something to cheer about on senior night Friday, posting the sixth win of the season with a convincing 53-30 victory over Hampton.

Lady Huskies lose late lead Monday

A 20-point effort from Cassidy Knust wasn’t enough for the Lady Huskies to pull a potential upset.  A huge rally from No. 2 Grand Island Northwest in the fourth quarter catapulted the Vikings to a 55-49 win over No. 3 Aurora in the semifinals of the B-6 subdistrict tournament played Monday at York.

Aurora is sending seven wrestlers to next week's state wrestling championships with lofty goals in mind after a runner-up team effort in the B-3 district Saturday at GINW.

Every once in awhile during those off weekends of the college calendar or during the summer, those around Aurora may have seen an athletic young woman jogging quickly around town wearing a South Dakota University sweatshirt or t-shirt.

Cassidy Knust proved once again to have ice water pumping through her veins with her impressive statline Friday night.  The Aurora senior had a game-high 22 points, including a perfect 15 of 15 from the free throw line in the Lady Huskies’ 56-52 overtime win at home over Waverly.

Raise your hand if you’re tired of Nick Saban. And let me know if it would be nice to see different teams in the national championship game for once. If I sound a little bitter, it’s only because I am. Saban has the Tide on a roll that the college football world has probably never seen.

Aurora set for district wrestling

Aurora is sending nine wrestlers to next week's district tournament with a shot at state on the line.  The Huskies hosted Saturday's Class B 3B subdistrict tournament with Fairbury, GINW, Wahoo, Mount Michael and Plattsmouth all in attendance.
