Penner finds love for basketball again

Just a few short years ago, Henry Penner wasn’t happy in his relationship with the game of basketball.  After a location change and a lot of growth as a player his love for the game is as strong as ever for the former Husky and now Wayne State player.

Understanding the chaos of youth wrestling

Surely a couple future state wrestling champions were in action Friday night at Aurora’s youth wrestling tournament.  Attending a wrestling event in general is unlike any other sporting event out there. Going to a youth event with PreK-aged tykes makes it that much more unique.

Hornets struggle in season-ending loss to Heartland Lutheran

A sour night offensively spelled the end of Giltner’s basketball run.  The Hornets struggled with turnovers and scoring for much of the night as Heartland Lutheran picked up a 43-32 win over Giltner Feb. 23 in the D2-7 subdistrict tournament.

Jeremy Oswald’s last high school victory will be one to remember.  It wasn’t for a state title, or even for a medal. It was for career win No. 100 in front of a state wrestling crowd.

While he didn’t make the game-winning shot, Jameson Herzberg called game Monday night.  The senior Husky scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half, including the game-winning assist as Aurora survived an upset effort from York 45-43 in the B-6 subdistrict semifinals.
Aurora’s Brekyn Papineau had an eventful state championship event, recording his 100th career victory while finishing third at 195 as one of five medalists for the Huskies.

On paper, it was Aurora’s best state championship run since 2005. The Huskies had five semifinalists, three finalists and two state champions.  The two wrestlers who didn’t come out on the right side of semifinal matches were Brekyn Papineau and Aaron Jividen.

Double trouble

Aurora's Caden Svoboda and Trevor Kluck both completed lifelong goals Saturday night.  The Husky senior duo both won their first elusive state championships at 106 and 145, giving Aurora its first state champion since Garret Johns in 2012.
