Carlos Collazo may not be human.  The Aurora junior ran through and past Scottsbluff's defense, tying Aurora's single-game school record for rushing yards with 285 on 29 carries and four touchdowns as Aurora defeated Scottsbluff, 34-14 Friday night in the Class B quarterfinals.

HPC Storm qualifies for back-to-back district final games

Before 2020, High Plains had never made it to a district final game in volleyball. Now, they’ve qualified in back-to-back years.  The Lady Storm earned their way in, winning the D2-3 subdistrict final over Osceola in front of a home crowd Oct. 26, doing so in three sets.

There were two bands, two sets of student sections and loud, oh was it loud.  It was everything desirable with a trip to state on the line between a pair of rivals. The streak verses the upset.

GINW edges Aurora in B-6 final

The atmosphere was electric and the play on the court matched the intensity.  Aurora had the advantage first, but Grand Island Northwest had the last laugh, defeating the Lady Huskies in four, 23-25, 25-22, 25-17 and 25-21 in the B-6 district final from GINW Saturday morning.

Huskies roll Lexington in first round

Aurora's trek through the Class B playoffs began in smothering fashion.  The Huskies won the turnover battle, blocked multiple punts and shut down Lexington's offense as Aurora rolled to a 49-7 win in the first round of the Class B playoffs.

Area teams set for district finals

Two area teams will compete Saturday for a spot in next week's state volleyball tournament in Lincoln.  Aurora (15-18) will play an all-too-familiar opponent, taking on Grand Island Northwest (23-11) Saturday at 11 a.m. in GI.

State medal fulfills Kuehner goal in last high school race

Four years of training, learning and competing as a cross country runner came down to one final day for Aurora senior Elena Kuehner, who capped her high school career by earning a medal at the Class C state meet in Kearney.

High Plains ends Giltner’s season at D2-3 subdistricts

HPC’s march toward a potential first-ever trip to the state volleyball tournament started off nearly perfect Monday night.  The Lady Storm made quick work of Giltner, defeating the Hornets in three sets 25-19, 25-9 and 25-20 at home to start the D2-3 subdistrict tournament.
