Naughty or nice?

Ho! Ho! Ho and pass the turkey! It’s that time once again when I get to do my thing, when I get to hand out all sorts of fun presents to all of the nice (and a few naughty) girls and boys who made my very special list this year.

Aaron Jividen doesn't smile a lot, but he let out a small one when he marked off a career milestone Friday.  The Aurora senior picked up his 100th career victory in his opening round matchup at Platteview, on his way to a first place effort in the event at heavyweight.

Owens inks with South Dakota

Mack Owens has been committed to South Dakota since mid-August. His decision never wavered and was made official Wednesday.  Owens signed his letter of intent to continue his academic and football career at South Dakota and join the Coyote program as an inside linebacker on early signing day.

For the second year in a row, Aurora’s Gage Griffith proved to be one of Nebraska’s best linemen.  The Husky was selected to the 1st Team All-Nebraska by the Omaha World-Herald for his efforts during Aurora’s 10-3 season.

The High Plains boys team has given fans its monies worth so far in the early part of the season.  For the second time in as many games, the Storm won on the game’s final play, this time making a last-second shot to defeat Fullerton 48-47 Dec. 7.

Huskies terrorize Lakeview

Defensive pressure was a highlight for the Huskies Friday night.  Aurora held Columbus Lakeview to seven first-half points as the Huskies picked up a convincing 55-25 win over the Vikings.

The Aurora girls basketball team earned its first win of the season Friday night in comeback fashion.  Denae Nachtigal scored all 12 of her team-high points in the second half as Aurora picked up a 39-33 win at home.

Lady Huskies face stiff competition

Aurora’s start to the season was as tough as any.  The Lady Huskies welcomed a tall Adams Central team to Aurora for the season opener Thursday night before playing a ranked Wahoo team the following night.

Huskies tough out win against gritty Adams Central

There were times during Aurora’s season-opener Thursday against Adams Central where the Huskies looked like a team who hasn’t practiced much.  Well, they haven’t. Yet, the flashes of a good basketball team were there.
