Oz’s last stand

Austin Allen’s first game in Memorial Stadium was a tough pill to swallow. His final one wasn’t any easier.  Oz, a then-junior for the Aurora Huskies, made one of the more impressive high school catches I’ve seen on the right sideline with his team down 25-21 on a 4th and 16.
Aurora’s offensive line had definite size in 2021, including the likes of Brekyn Papineau, Aaron Jividen, Garrett Bellis, Gage Griffith, Kellen Peterson and Jack Allen.

Huskies O-line has some fun, with a side of pancakes

The final score of Monday’s Class B state championship game wasn’t what the Huskies were hoping for, but a closer look at the stat sheet reflects a powerful Aurora running game anchored up front with the big guys on the line.

Bennington topples Aurora in final

Mack Owens took several moments to himself following the final whistle Monday night.  The Aurora senior co-captain fell just short of the ultimate goal for himself and the Huskies -- winning a state championship.

Oz’s record showing

Everything finally started to fall into place for Austin Allen in Badgerland.  Well, except for one thing.  The Nebraska co-captain had the game of his life Saturday, catching seven passes for 143 yards in Saturday’s road game at Wisconsin, a single game school record for a tight end.

Huskies set for rematch with Bennington

Aurora coach Kyle Peterson made a promise to his players following an 0-2 start and a loss to Bennington. If they put their nose down, continued to get better and completely bought in, the Huskies would still be playing in late November and have another shot at the Badgers.

Frost warning

There was a Frost warning a week ago in Nebraska, as in Husker A.D. Trev Alberts giving football coach Scott Frost one more season to get things back on the winning track.

Mothers always win

The DAM game was something else.  Giltner’s volleyball team took the floor for one final time in 2021, but the opponent on the other side of the net was quite the authoritative figure.  The players call them Mom.

Huskies down Skutt for return trip to finals

Aurora's two biggest plays on the football field Friday night came from first-year players who normally take to the basketball floor.  The Huskies rallied from 10 down to defeat Omaha Skutt 21-17 Friday night in the Class B semifinals, making its second consecutive state finals appearance.
Aurora’s defense held Scottsbluff to 206 total yards Friday night, highlighted by multiple defenders to the ball, like Jack Allen (middle) and Kellen Peterson (54).

Huskies have date with Skutt

A smile came across Aurora coach Kyle Peterson’s face Friday night when he heard of the Huskies’ opponent in the Class B semifinals.  Omaha Skutt is coming west. Aurora will host Omaha Skutt Friday with a trip to Memorial Stadium in the Class B finals on the line starting with a 7 p.m. kick.

Tough decisions inching closer for Austin Allen

Native son Austin Allen has a huge decision to ponder over Nebraska’s second bye week, one that he doesn’t take lightly.  Will the final two games against Wisconsin and Iowa be his last as a Husker? Is there a path for Oz into the NFL?
