Friday’s regular season finale was anything but the normal cross-county showdown between Hampton and Giltner’s girls.
On an emotional senior night in front of 400-plus fans on hand to pay tribute to Hawk coach Kyle Ediger, the Lady Hawks posted a 52-36 win, though coach Margo LaBrie said the final score wasn’t the focus of the evening.
“I told the girls that it was going to be like a state tournament crowd and that they were going to go through a range of emotions and that was okay,” LaBrie said. “I thought they held it together and played well.”
Giltner coach Nancy Lockmon tipped her hat to the former Hawk coach as well, saying they shared a passion for coaching kids and teaching math.
“Tonight was more on Hampton’s hands as they had to make a decision about what to do and we just did our part to come in and do what they asked us to do,” Lockmon said. “We wanted to keep it as normal as possible for everybody involved. It’s just a very tough situation.”
