Huskies set for tilt with Class A’s North Platte

A Husky football team long on experience and high in expectations will be tested right out of the gate Friday, beginning the season with a road game against Class A North Platte.

Thanks to conversation between friends and a special program offered by the Nebraska (and U.S) Forest Service, both the Aurora and Giltner volunteer fire departments received new pieces to their firefighting fleet. The exchange took place Aug. 18, much to the appreciation of both departments.

Aurora swimming pool reports busy year

The Aurora swimming pool ended the 2021 season with solid numbers, reporting average daily attendance of 265 people. Co-manager Eli Cerveny reported high interest this year in swimming lessons, with 522 private lessons and 119 group lessons taught during the summer.

Law enforcement responds to bomb threat

According to Aurora Police Chief Paul Graham, APD was dispatched to Pizza Hut in Aurora in the early evening of Aug. 19 to investigate a possible bomb threat. Law enforcement entered the building, found nothing suspicious and the situation was cleared. Pizza Hut resumed business.

City, AHDC take steps toward new housing subdivision

The Aurora City council approved the final plat last week for the fourth addition in the Streeter Subdivision, another potentially significant step forward in an effort to address a housing study’s recommendation that the community is in dire need of more townhomes and single-family dwellings.

The fall sports season is quickly approaching and area teams have been hard at work the past 10 days with practices and scrimmages. The Lady Husky softball team scrimmaged Thursday and is set to take the diamond for its season opener this Thursday against Lexington at home.   
A single-car rollover accident was reported just before noon on Aug. 10, leaving a pair of occupants with injuries and one in critical condition, according to law enforcement.

Hamilton County Sheriffs officers were called to an accident on M Road just before noon Aug. 10 for a one-vehicle rollover accident.  Two teens, a brother and sister, were injured, one critical, in the rollover accident three miles southwest of Aurora, according to law enforcement.

Teachers, administration and staff from Aurora, Giltner, Hampton and Hampton Lutheran gathered at the Plainsman Museum Monday afternoon for a celebration lunch to kick off the coming school year. Towards the end of the meal, Tina Larson, museum director shared words of thanks to those in attendance.
