Smiles and high fives were abundant after Saturday morning flag football games at Husky Stadium. Hampton and Aurora teams greet each other here in a show of sportsmanship, all part of the game young boys and girls are learning at the most fundamental level.

An area matchup on the gridiron was a big focus Friday night as HPC defended its home field.The Storm dominated in the second half to pick up a 65-26 win over Giltner on its Homecoming night. HPC led the game 30-20 at the half, holding the Hornets to a single touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Hampton fans had a big road trip Friday night and were smiling all the way home.The Hawks rallied from 12 points down in the second half to defeat Sterling, 35-34 to highlight a wild week three of the area high school football season.

The trust in Zoe Johnson’s right arm paid off last week. It took a minute to get hot, but once the Aurora bats caught fire the Lady Huskies blasted Centennial for nine runs in the fifth inning to pick up an 11-1 win in five innings at home Aug. 29.

Area football roundup Week 2

Week one featured a lot of success for area teams, but not so much this time around. The area was 0-4 through Week two of the high school football season with all four schools losing road contests.

Lightning strikes seven times for Huskies

Lightning struck Friday night in Grand Island, once in the third quarter on the ground with back-to-back plays that simultaneously shocked the home Viking crowd and thrilled Husky Nation, and several times a few minutes later in the sky, causing a 90-minute delay in the season opener.
