The  old adage of “Keeping up with the Jones’” may have affected many lifestyles of youth, but now that we’ve retired “keeping up” with many things has been difficult. We will exclude the Jones and set our focus (such as it is) and substitute the word “technology.

We’ve been watching with interest over the past couple of years the development of driverless vehicles. Over those years we’ve been told autonomous vehicles were improving. During those years we’ve not knowingly faced a driverless car or truck as we’ve traveled the roadways.

A mouse in the house is simply not welcome guest

The other day a person questioned me if I ever had a mouse problem because he was facing one. I assured him that a long time ago I had faced a mouse problem, but I wasn’t the one to solve his problem.  My lone mouse solution wasn’t one I would recommend.

Several people have asked the status of the Australian Shepherd dog that had roamed about Aurora for several weeks before being caught and brought to Aurora Adopt-A-Pet Animal Shelter.

Mark Twain has always been a favorite of mine. Maybe it was because I lived as a “river rat youth” in the Eastern Nebraska town of Plattsmouth that was located along the Missouri River and liked author Twain’s Tom Sawyer -- Huck Finn books depicting their activities along  the Mississippi River.

Election focus is starting to steam up for present politicians and new candidate hopefuls who are establishing platforms to woe voters.  Whatever positions those platforms air, voters will still eventually determine the election’s winners and losers.

When we were kids we thought we would want to be able to travel to the moon. In the past few months a few private companies have entered the space race. They have taken, for a fee, private citizens for short rocket trip into space and back.

Whose job is it to teach kids to be tolerant?

We couldn’t help but laugh when we read a headline where  a parent urged the school to teach  children to be more tolerant. In our viewpoint, it appears that is a parent’s job and not the school.  But, when we think a little deeper, in this day and age the role should be reversed.
