Several people have asked the status of the Australian Shepherd dog that had roamed about Aurora for several weeks before being caught and brought to Aurora Adopt-A-Pet Animal Shelter.  This past week the shelter witnessed the conclusion of  a happy tale, or we can even say in this case, a happy “tail.”
Looking back nearly two months ago, this Aussie  was on the run throughout  the community, but was thankfully being monitored by a group of citizens who were concerned about her safety and accomplished capture. Since Feb. 9 the dog, now named “Penny” by one of the concerned capturers,  has been housed and taken care of at the shelter while trying to find her owner; given  shots; fed; and enjoyed the warmth of heated kennel. After the three-week requirement  to search for the owner, “Penny” then was put up for adoption.
Adoption came quickly and easily. Penny had already won over everyone who had come in contact with her. It was a happy day for both dog and shelter personnel when the family consisting of a mother and two teenagers who had recently experienced the loss of the husband, father and their labrador dog, came to greet Penny and take her to her loving new home.
Not much to be said except this message and picture came after the first week at her new home:
“Penny is doing really well and shares lots of kisses and hugs. She already has learned how to ring the bell to go out the back door . . . We are so grateful to have Penny!”
This is just another example of citizens’ effort why we are glad to call, “Aurora our home.”
