Area schools post enrollment

One month into the new school year enrollment totals are in with the four area districts reporting a combined decrease of 69 students. Hampton Public Schools reported the only increase, up 11 students, with Aurora, Giltner and High Plains Community Schools dropping by a combined 80 students.

Aurora golfers earned more hardware this week though the stakes grow higher now with conference and district meets on the dance card in the coming days. The Lady Huskies earned a third place finish at the Holdrege Invite Thursday, a venue they will see again Friday for the conference showdown.

It was a sad day for more than just local band students when the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association cancelled the State Marching Festival and competition, and the cancellation of many more band competitions followed suit.

Lady Huskies upend Northwest

Aurora's win over Grand Island Northwest Tuesday was a bit sweeter. The Lady Huskies held off the late Viking rally to win in five, 22-25, 26-24, 25-16, 24-26 and 15-6 at home Tuesday.

Over 100 years of history make up local post office’s past

The Aurora post office is a common local sight for most community members. Most every incorporated community has a post office, and in some of the small, rural towns in Nebraska the history of said local post office is long, unique and just as impressive as the exterior of the old buildings.
