Football season taking flight

Football is in the air as the calendar flips to August. Both middle school and high school students attended football camp-related activities Thursday in preparation for the 2023 season.

Did you hear that sound Monday morning?It was music to a sports fan’s ear. Practices kicked off for all NSAA sports Monday as all four area schools were on the gridiron and volleyball court while Aurora’s cross country, girls golf and softball teams knocked the dust off, too.

Aurora legion alumni contest ends in dead heat

The Aurora Post 42 Pinnacle Bank Seniors played in its third annual alumni game at Mitchell Field Saturday. The game ended in semi-controversial fashion, a 5-5 tie after nine innings, all in good fun.

It was a much lighter week for the Aurora Pinnacle Bank Post 42 Seniors team, but still got some work in before Friday’s deluge of rain.Aurora picked up a split with Wood River Thursday, winning game two 12-3 after falling to Wood River, 11-3 in game one.

Stolpe’s heroics not enough in final defeat

The Aurora Cooperative Juniors dug deep on three separate occasions Monday afternoon and nearly did the impossible. Aurora rallied in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, but couldn’t quite get enough defense in a 20-14 loss to York in the loser’s bracket of the B-1 area tournament at Sutton.
