Charlie Evans waited, paused and held back a bit more during a tense 1600 race late Monday afternoon.Once the pay window opened up in the final 200 meters, though, the Aurora junior found a fifth gear, turned for home and never looked back.

The 100 meter dash final at last week’s High Plains Invite featured a lot of local flavor.Of the eight lanes, four of them were occupied by area ANR athletes and in the end, the race for the win came down between two of them.

Lucas Gautier took a big step forward Thursday towards one of his goals of chasing the 800 meter run school record.The Aurora senior cut through the breeze to a winning time at the Dutch Zorn Invite in Gothenburg, running a 1:58.85 to win by three seconds.

Huskies plate first-ever baseball win

The first one is sometimes the hardest one to come by. Aurora’s baseball team doesn’t need to fret about that anymore.The Huskies earned its first win in program history at Mitchell Field Friday, blitzing Maxwell St. Pat’s 18-7 in its third game in four days.

It was quite the welcomed moment for Ethan Ramaekers. The Aurora senior marked a new PR at Thursday’s Norris Invite, clearing 6-4 in the high jump in a razor-thin competition.

The boys 100 meter dash at Thursday’s Osceola Invite featured razor-thin margins and represented a tight race for second in the team standings. The top three finishers, each coming from Giltner and High Plains, finished within .02 of one another at the line.

It was anything but golf weather at Friday’s Seward Invite.The Huskies opened the season in downright brutal conditions, including temperatures at 35 degrees with a feels-like temp of 23 and wind gusts steady above 20 miles per hour.
