Aurora's two biggest plays on the football field Friday night came from first-year players who normally take to the basketball floor.  The Huskies rallied from 10 down to defeat Omaha Skutt 21-17 Friday night in the Class B semifinals, making its second consecutive state finals appearance.

Carlos Collazo may not be human.  The Aurora junior ran through and past Scottsbluff's defense, tying Aurora's single-game school record for rushing yards with 285 on 29 carries and four touchdowns as Aurora defeated Scottsbluff, 34-14 Friday night in the Class B quarterfinals.

The atmosphere was electric and the play on the court matched the intensity.  Aurora had the advantage first, but Grand Island Northwest had the last laugh, defeating the Lady Huskies in four, 23-25, 25-22, 25-17 and 25-21 in the B-6 district final from GINW Saturday morning.

Huskies roll Lexington in first round

Aurora's trek through the Class B playoffs began in smothering fashion.  The Huskies won the turnover battle, blocked multiple punts and shut down Lexington's offense as Aurora rolled to a 49-7 win in the first round of the Class B playoffs.

Area teams set for district finals

Two area teams will compete Saturday for a spot in next week's state volleyball tournament in Lincoln.  Aurora (15-18) will play an all-too-familiar opponent, taking on Grand Island Northwest (23-11) Saturday at 11 a.m. in GI.

Aurora earns No. 2 seed in Class B playoffs

Aurora enters the Class B playoffs as hot as anyone, riding a seven-game win streak and playing its best football of the year.  The Huskies (7-2) were rewarded the No. 2 seed in the Class B playoffs and will play No. 15 Lexington (4-5) at home Friday night.

Huskies roll Seward for district title

Aurora and Seward was billed as a Class B top 10 showdown with a district championship on the line.  A huge start from the Huskies snowballed into a rout as Aurora defeated Seward 50-14 on its home field to win the district crown.

Friday night roundup week 8

Playoff football weather was in the air Friday night, giving a preview of what's to come during week eight of the high school football season.  All four area teams were on the road Friday with Aurora picking up the lone win.

Aurora splits day one conference play

The beginning of the Central Conference tournament for the defending champ Aurora Huskies was a roller coaster ride. York gave them plenty of problems early, defeating Aurora in two, 25-18 and 25-20 before coming back to beat Lexington in the following match, 25-16 and 26-24.

Elena Kuehner didn't have anyone to run with at Thursday's C-4 district race. That's because she dusted the field.  The Lady Husky senior won gold at the C-4 district event at Streeter Park in Aurora, winning the race by 26 seconds and helping Aurora to a district title as a team.
