Two area teams will compete Saturday for a spot in next week's state volleyball tournament in Lincoln.

Aurora (15-18) will play an all-too-familiar opponent, taking on Grand Island Northwest (23-11) Saturday at 11 a.m. in GI.

The Lady Huskies have had success against GINW this year, defeating the Vikings twice. The first came during Beatrice's tournament Sept 4 while the other came in a five-set thriller Sept. 21 at Northwest. The two teams did play a third time during the Central Conference tournament, where the Vikings won in two sets Oct. 16.

Aurora is chasing its second state tournament appearance in as many years, as well as its sixth since 2013.

As for High Plains (20-11), the Storm will face a new opponent completely, competing in the D2-4 district final against Stuart (25-5) Saturday at 2 p.m. from a neutral site, Elkhorn Valley.

This is the second year in a row that High Plains has qualified for a district final matchup and is looking to make history with its first-ever trip to the state tournament.

High Plains' 20 victories this season is one more than it had a year ago, when the Storm lost to BDS in the district finals.
