A special moment

I’m not sure why I was so nervous pulling up to Aurora’s beautiful new football turf last week.  The moment had to be not only a special one, but perfect, too. Just like all the moments the duo has provided all of us in the past.

Learning the game

The Aurora golf coaching staff held a youth golf clinic last week at Poco Creek to get youngsters introduced and hopefully spurn a love for the game at the same time. Campers learned the basics of the game, including putting, chipping and several drills to practice with.

Juniors can’t hold late lead over York

The sixth inning was the game-defining moment for York and the Aurora Cooperative Juniors squads at Mitchell Field June 8.  York posted a five-run sixth inning to take the lead and eventually hang on for a 7-5 win over the Aurora Cooperative Juniors team.

Phillips fans 11 in Seniors’ first win

A near-perfect effort on the bump from Cayden Phillips was a big help for the Aurora Post 42 Pinnacle Bank Seniors in its first win last week.  Phillips tossed a complete game as Aurora defeated St. Paul 13-0 June 1 as the Pinnacle Bank Seniors won its first game of the season.

Returning talent key for NU

Summer is definitely here with the hot temperatures, the increase in humidity and oh, the lack of any Husker football news, recruiting included. So what better time to look ahead to August and September.

The BigRich Sports Report

I love a good golf story. It could be Tiger winning the 2019 Masters or Phil Mickelson winning the PGA Championship a few weeks ago.  The unexplainable happens on the golf course more often than anywhere else. Something that, no matter what, you have to root for.

Several Hornets hit PR marks at state competition

While Giltner’s state championship streak came to an end over the weekend, its flag flew proudly one last time as several Hornets set new PRs.  Of Giltner’s four athletes who competed at Omaha Burke, two of them set new personal records while a third tied a previous best mark.
Tanner Wood set a new PR for himself in the pole vault, finishing ninth with a mark of 12-foot.

Tanner Wood closed out his High Plains athletic career in impressive fashion.  Wood set a new PR in the pole vault while just missing out on the medalstand and helped the 400 relay team to one of its best times of the season during the state track and field meet last week.
