Storm send five to state track meet

Throughout most of the 2021 track season, a couple events have become staples for the High Plains track team. For the most part, those events will be well represented by the Storm in Omaha this week.

Area tracksters compete at High Plains Invite last week

For the first time this season, the area trio of Giltner, Hampton and High Plains were all in action at the same place at the same time.  The Hornets, Hawks and Storm competed at the High Plains Invite hosted at Osceola’s track April 14 with several solid performances all around.

HPC co-op talks raise concerns

Parents and community members came forth during the High Plains Board of Education meeting Monday in a passionate plea for the school to not join another sports cooperative with Hampton.

HPC Beef: it’s what’s for lunch

One of the most Nebraskan things is to eat beef and at High Plains Community Schools they are bringing locally sourced beef into their lunchroom through the Beef Booster program.

A chill can be felt in the air alongside the bleats of a goat herd. Absent from their numbers are the nanny goats that are ready to kid. They have taken to the warmth and safety of High Plains Community School’s new birthing barn.

HPC discusses $3.8M expansion

High Plains Community Schools will be seeing significant changes in the future as the school board approved a contract Monday for the scope of work in its draft form with Ayers & Ayers for a $3.85 million addition to the high school.  Supt.

Storm falls to BDS at CRC

A delay of several days didn’t help High Plains much on the floor last week.  Its game against BDS in the opening round of the CRC tournament was supposed to be played Jan. 23, but a major winter storm that came through last week pushed it all the way to Jan. 27.

Alspaugh set to coach Lady Storm

Mack Alspaugh has no problem tucking away his coaches whistle and jumping into practice with his players. He’s been there and done it before.  Surely if someone like Brianna Wilshusen can get a shot off in the lane or a rebound over her head coach, it should be a fun season for HPC basketball.

While high school prepares many students for further education and entry into the workforce, there are some who would say that they don’t always prepare young adults for real life.
