City leaders agreed earlier this month to extend the terms of a Community Development Block Grant program, allowing the Aurora Development Corporation two more years to meet job creation requirements tied to a $710,000 grant from the Nebraska Development of Economic Development.

Hamilton County first responders see first doses of Pfizer COVID vaccine

A handful of local EMTs and paramedics from Aurora and Hampton were on hand at the Aurora Fire Station today to receive their first doses, and the first for the county, of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. These doses were allocated through the Central District Health Department.

To many people, the great outdoors is a place where they enjoy spending their time. For Alex Lohrmeyer the outdoors held a budding career with Nebraska Game and Parks. “I’ve been working for them for about three or four years now,” he explained.

The Lady Huskies showed flashes on opening night of what could be during the 2020-21 season. However, those flashes didn’t come frequently enough.  Aurora opened the season on the road Thursday night, ending up on the wrong end of a 56-38 score to Adams Central.

The Aurora 4R board talked at length Monday about the district’s COVID-19 protocol, with one member sharing data he recently gathered in support of removing the mask mandate within the school system.  “You guys have been lights-out, all the admin team, all the staff,” Kirk Penner began.

An emergency meeting was held by the Aurora School Board Monday night in an effort to reapprove an updated school operations policy.  A handful of changes were made, including the addition of a new phase (making the district’s plan now a five-phase situation, instead of four) and contingency plan.

Food Fight raises $2,785.52 for Hamilton County Food Pantry

Students at the Aurora Elementary School held the 12th annual Food Fight to raise donations for the Hamilton County Food Pantry.  In previous years students have brought in food items, but due to the ongoing pandemic it was decided to switch to collecting coins.

One year after taking over what had been a county owned and operated ambulance service, city leaders say it was the right decision to launch a fire-based EMS unit, though admitting that they faced an accelerated learning curve in the midst of a global pandemic.
