Winning moments

Some people call it ice water in the veins. Others refer to it as coming up in the clutch. There aren’t two other athletes in the coverage area that define those statements or live out those phrases better than Gage Griffith and Eva Fahrnbruch.

The Edgerton Explorit Center applied its hands-on learning philosophy to football last week, offering the first-ever Youth Quarterback Academy with a little help from the head Husky and Aurora’s starting quarterback. This week, future kickers are invited to join in the fun.

Pinnacle Bank Seniors can’t catch a break, or a win

Outside of a number of impressive plays by the Aurora Post 42 Pinnacle Bank Seniors, the team couldn’t quite find the groove during its most recent week of baseball.

Aurora Coop Juniors closing in on 1st win

While the Aurora Cooperative Juniors are still searching for its first win of the season, coach Jeremy Burgener knows it isn’t far away.  There were a couple close calls over the weekend as the Aurora Cooperative Juniors competed at a York tournament, losing a pair of contests.

Devin Otto couldn’t keep track of his strikeout total on the mound with both of his fingers. He needed most of his toes, too.  Otto fanned 16 batters during Aurora Post 42 Pinnacle Bank Seniors’ 14-7 win at Twin River May 31 in six innings of relief work.

Tom Kropp is a recognizable figure across the state for his legendary accomplishments that started in an Aurora uniform 50 years ago.  Just the mention of the name Kropp brings stories of game-winners, no hitters and the impossible becoming possible.

Aurora Legion ball off and running

The Aurora Pinnacle Bank Seniors team has had quite the start to the 2022 summer campaign.  The Seniors Legion squad posted two wins in its first three games, including a 15-6 win over Central City May 20, a 7-5 win over St. Paul May 22 before a 6-0 loss to DCB Thursday.

Aurora tracksters experience highs, lows of state

Aurora’s efforts at the state track and field championships featured the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.  The Huskies earned three state championships, two for Gage Griffith and another for Carsen Staehr, finishing fifth in the Class B team race behind those efforts.
