Huskies net first win

by Richard RhodenThe Huskies are into the win column just after the calendar flipped to April.Aurora put together a solid 80 minutes of soccer, picking up a 5-1 win at Columbus Lakeview Thursday for its first win of the year, coming on the heels of a close 2-0 loss to rival GINW April 1.

Roe Patton flew up the Aurora all-time chart faster than Friday’s wind gusts. In just his second meet wearing Husky red and first time in an outdoor environment, Patton crushed the Aurora pole vault school record, eclipsing 15-6 during Friday’s Aurora Invite.

A solid outing on the mound from Jack Spiehs and timely offense lifted the Huskies to its first win on the diamond last week.Aurora used a three-run fifth inning to help secure a 5-3 win over Centennial March 25 at Mitchell Field.

Huskies kick off spring with Concordia Indoor

Last week’s wild winter storm couldn’t prevent the Aurora track team from getting onto the oval for the first time.Instead of its originally scheduled meet Thursday, the Huskies jumped into the Class A-heavy Concordia Invite Saturday, facing some of the largest schools in Nebraska.

Aurora alumni tourney set for Saturday

The 36th edition of the Bill Kropp and Curly Penner Memorial Alumni Basketball Tournament is set for tipoff Saturday morning.Ten teams are set in the bracket for Saturday, with graduates from as far back as 2007 and as recent as 2024 ready to shoot for the top.
