Looking forward

Along with the fireworks and chords of Auld Lang Syne, if you listen carefully on New Year’s Eve there will also be a giant, collective flushing sound heard around the world. Wooshhh! Be gone 2020.  You’ll find little argument with that sentiment as New Year’s Eve approaches.

Ho! Ho! Ho! It’s that time once again because in just two days, it’s Christmas! So I’ve got my sleigh shined up ready to go, and my belly full of cookies. Rudolph and his gang are excited to once again bring plenty of special presents to all of my favorite boys and girls.

A year with gaps reminds us of all our blessings

A few weeks ago after a considerable debate the Betterhhalf wrote our annual Christmas letter on the promise I would take over the letter duty in 2021. Since then I have paid little more attention to the Christmas letters and cards sent to us this season.

A precious gift

There is a special feeling in the air this week as we pause to celebrate a most precious time of the year -- Christmas. This year, perhaps more than any that I can recall in my lifetime, Christians have leaned on their faith to help find the strength and perspective to handle challenges of the day.

Allen snags first career touchdown for Big Red

Watching Saturday’s Nebraska-Minnesota game had my insides feeling like the outside temperature and my personal version of the good, the bad and the ugly.  Let’s start with the positive, because it’s going to get a lot worse from here. The good: Austin Allen, pride of Aurora, finally found pay dirt.

Older generation gets steps in by backtracking

We’ve been told by health authorities that as we get older we don’t walk as much as when we were younger. As we’ve gotten older and observing our current walking habits I think some those health experts’ observations of seniors are wrong.

A timeless message

“The essence of the Christmas spirit is in the words ‘Peace on Earth, goodwill towards men.’ Around this simple premise, Christian and non-Christian may join and make this season one of united purpose. Peace and goodwill summarize our hopes and aspirations for all of the world.
