It’s a sensory overload. It could be 90 degrees in September or 10 below zero in November, but the one constant is the goosebumps. The smell of the freshly cut grass underneath a sun-fading evening. Heck, the grounds crew may have even left that grass just a bit on the taller side.

The strength of the High Plains track team all season long has been its relay efforts and that was on full display for a statewide audience over the weekend.

Storm rolling into state championships

The High Plains boys track team set themselves up for a huge party in Omaha this weekend. The Storm is sending 11 athletes, nine of them on the boys side to the state track and field championships after a powerful showing at the D-2 district meet in Osceola.
Aurora’s Adi Fahrnbruch will participate in three events at this week’s state track and field championships, including the triple jump, long jump and 400 meter relay. Fahrnbruch was the district champion in the triple jump while finishing third in the long jump.

Aurora’s track team is sending 11 athletes to this week’s state track and field championships after a hard-fought district meet on its home oval.Northwest won both the boys and girls team championships at the B-5 district meet May 7 with Hastings giving the Viking boys a real run for the money.

A year ago, Eli Arndt had to wait around with nervous anticipation whether or not he qualified for the state track and field championships. The Hampton senior made sure that wasn’t an issue for his final go-round.

Area runners compete in Lincoln marathon

There was plenty of local flair at Sunday’s Lincoln marathon and half marathon with nearly 20 competitors just from Aurora alone. Jessica Gibson, Levi Schulze and Ryan Siebrass were Aurora’s three competitors in the marathon. Schulze finished at 3:28.43 while Gibson ran a time of 4:35.

Huskies round out inaugural baseball season Thursday

Aurora’s first spring baseball season closed its scorebook one last time Thursday as the Huskies got some postseason experience.The Big Red competed in the C-2 district as the No. 4 seed playing at top seeded Lincoln Christian.
