Unemployment claims decrease

The Nebraska Department of Labor announced this week that new unemployment claims decreased while continued unemployment claims saw another decline.
Last week, 3,973 new regular unemployment claims were filed, a decrease of 51.6 percent over the prior week, when 8,208 claims were filed.

A native of Superior, Shellhase took a position in Ord, where he worked for almost 30 years in parts and sales.

The 2020 Hamilton County Fair kicked off Monday with the 4-H style review -- COVID style. Young 4-Hers modeled their outfits before a judge and were recorded, with the results to be shared virtually.

Two resolutions approved to aid in abandoned cemetery funding

According to Hamilton County Veteran’s Service Officer Mike Irons, state statute dictates that in order to expend county funds on the preservation or upkeep of an abandoned cemetery, there must be approval first from the county board.

The 149th Hamilton County Fair is set to highlight the fairgrounds in Aurora this week despite it looking quite a bit different than it has in years past.
Many events have been moved to accommodate for social distancing and to keep exhibitors, judges and volunteers safe.

Aug. 5 fundraiser planned for Coleton

A fundraiser for Coleton Sorgenfrei will be held on Aug. 5 from 7-9 p.m. The rootbeer float social will be held on the east side of the Phillips Memorial Hall; free will donations will be accepted. A second event will be held in Aurora at a later date.
