Jeremy Brandt was appointed by county commissioners Monday as Hamilton County Highway Superintendent.  Brandt replaces former Supt. K.C. Pawling, who now works for NIRMA, and will take up the position effective immediately.

Candidates planning to throw their hat in the ring for locally elected offices can officially file as of this week. Hamilton County Clerk Jill DeMers reported that Jan. 5 was the first day people can file for elected office. Incumbents have until Feb.

Aurora businessman Kirk Penner was appointed by Gov. Pete Ricketts Thursday to fill a vacant seat on the Nebraska State Board of Education, saying he is honored by the appointment and fully aware of the hot-button policy issues he will soon be involved with.
