The Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Aurora will officially be celebrating its 45th anniversary on Sept. 10.
Through the past 45 years much has changed and been celebrated by the church and its congregation. Its charter members remember the opening well.
“God moves in mysterious ways and so it was as Century Manufacturing Co. moved its Patient Care equipment form Lincoln to a small building in Aurora in 1965,” a history of the church reads. “Coming with the business was Cal Berthelsen, making him the first Seventh-Day Adventist in this small community. More Adventists were brought in to work in the plant, Larry Crouse, Glen Berthelsen and John Wiener being among the first.”
For almost 12 years the families drove all the way to Grand Island for their worship services. As more Adventists were welcomed to the community, more members were added to the church.
“There was growing enthusiasm among the members to have their own church,” the history reads. “So when it was mentioned to Glen Berthelsen that the Lutherans were going to sell their church, he brought it before the group who were meeting regularly at the home of Mike Redwine for prayer meeting.”
