HPC holds Giltner in check during early season contest

It was quite the debut for HPC’s freshmen.  The Lady Storm’s two leading scorers were playing in their first-ever high school basketball game and played well enough to carry HPC to a 41-29 win over area-rival Giltner in Polk Friday.

Despite qualifying for a district final with a wild card, High Plains’ postseason future was on the line Oct. 25 in the D2-2 subdistrict final.

HPC Storm sweep Nebraska Lutheran in D2-2 subdistrict

High Plains was victorious Monday night in the D2-2 subdistrict semifinals, but had its home fans sweating it out for a minute or two.  The Lady Storm took down Nebraska Lutheran in three, 25-13, 25-23 and 25-22 in its home gym, setting up a third clash with Exeter-Milligan Tuesday night.

HPC Storm falls to Exeter-Milligan in CRC quarterfinals

High Plains and Exeter-Milligan had one of the matches of the day from the CRC tournament in the quarterfinals Saturday in York.  The two teams traded blows in its second match of the week, this time Exeter-Milligan taking the win in three, 25-22, 18-25 and 25-20. Back on Oct.

Area schools compete in district land judging contest

Three area schools competed Oct. 5 in the District Land Judging contest, hosted just outside of Marquette, with a pair of teams pushing forward and earning a chance to compete at the state level Wednesday. This was no usual district competition either, according to area ag teachers.
Kelsey Mersch’s family helped her construct the final form of her 4-H playground project at Pioneer Trails outside of Aurora. Mersch is excited that the equipment will provide entertainment for children now and in the future.

Storm split action at Cross County

The High Plains volleyball team found itself in a slugfest Saturday morning only to come out the other side winners.  The Storm went 2-2 at Saturday’s Cross County tournament, defeating East Butler and Nebraska Lutheran while dropping games to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family and the host Cougars.

Eva’s lucky 13 Eva Fahrnbruch has the golden arm.  The Aurora senior was masterful on the mound in two games last week, collecting 26 strikeouts -- 13 in each game -- as Aurora picked up two victories.  The Lady Huskies picked up an 8-0 win at Centennial Aug.

A young High Plains team learned a lot of lessons in its first home contest Friday night.  The Storm held pace for a moment, but not enough went right for High Plains in a 50-26 loss to Central Valley in Clarks.
