Eva’s lucky 13
Eva Fahrnbruch has the golden arm.
The Aurora senior was masterful on the mound in two games last week, collecting 26 strikeouts -- 13 in each game -- as Aurora picked up two victories.
The Lady Huskies picked up an 8-0 win at Centennial Aug. 31 before a clutch late-inning run helped defeat York at home Thursday, 4-3.
Aurora coach Ashton Voss explained that Fahrnbruch had her best stuff working last week with pinpoint accuracy and different velocities on her pitches.
“Eva pitched lights out these last two games,” the coach said. “Her location of pitches has been spot-on and has really paid off for us. Her pitching has been obviously a huge help to those two victories.”

Local gardeners represent well at Nebraska State Fair
Hamilton County has a deep love for its agricultural roots and this is seen on many levels throughout the communities within its borders. Talents are especially showcased in the once-a-year event that is the Nebraska State Fair.
Some giving it their all in agricultural efforts are youth, who join the fun in 4-H, FFA and open class events, and others are adults, still finding it rewarding to showcase their hard work in open class divisions across fair categories.
In a spot of pride, Hamilton County had outstanding participation for the 2022 Nebraska State Fair in the open class and did well according to local participants and results.Corn Growers plot tour features local meteorologist
Headlining the Hamilton County Corn Grower’s Association annual plot tour, after a tour of the physical plot, was a presentation by Aurora native Michael Moritz. Moritz currently serves as a Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Hastings.

State Fair attendance projected up
Preliminary reports from the Nebraska State Fair that ended its 11-day run Monday indicate that the 2022 edition was well attended, with a projected increase in the overall head count from a year ago.
Though final totals will not be announced until later in the week, marketing director Ray Massie said that from his perspective, the hot, dry weather and full list of activities throughout the fair boosted the daily crowds by early projections as much as 14-15 percent.

Storm start year with sweep of home triangular
Opening night for High Plains had its rough patches, but the veteran talent shone through.
High Plains turned in a perfect scorecard Thursday night at home, defeating East Butler 25-20 and 25-22 before taking down Giltner, 25-15 and 25-18.
HPC’s co-coaches Nicole Keenan and Jenna Mattox were pleased with the effort from the Storm, shaking off the opening-night jitters.
“We learned a lot from our jamboree games in the preseason,” Keenan said. “We went into those with the attitude of finishing and starting strong.”
As for Giltner coach Jamey Eastman, he pulled away some positive moments from the night, but is just looking for more consistency.
