Despite qualifying for a district final with a wild card, High Plains’ postseason future was on the line Oct. 25 in the D2-2 subdistrict final.
The host Storm battled Exeter-Milligan for a third time this season as the Timberwolves extended its year with a four-set victory over HPC, 25-27, 25-23, 25-23 and 25-17.
The match between two CRC rivals was the third of the year, each winning one time prior, setting up a rubber match in the postseason. HPC co-coaches Nicole Keenan and Jenna Mattox noted there was nothing to hide going into the rubber match.
“There wasn’t much to hide, that’s for sure,” Keenan said. “We’ve seen each other three times so we knew what was coming at us. We just wanted to be smarter and control our side.”
The Storm fed off the home crowd energy early as Hailey Lindburg, Rylee Ackerson and Kenzie Wruble pushed HPC to an early lead.
Leads for either team were tough to come by, traded each side several times with neither squad going up by more than four throughout the opening set.
