Troopers arrest driver, pursuit tops 155 mph

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) arrested a Utah man following a pursuit on Interstate 80 Monday evening. The pursuit began in York County and ended in Grand Island. At approximately 8 p.m.

Ambitious, hopeful and ready to take on this new school year -- no matter how unique -- the main focus for new Aurora Supt. Jody Phillips is to do the best job he possibly can, all while paying homage to his Husky roots. “It’s good to be back in the place that helped make me who I am,” he said.

Aurora woman’s late husband honored in film

He was a good soldier. He was a good man. He was the best at his job and this is what made him a target. Capt. Robert Yllescas, late husband to Aurora resident Dena Yllescas-Johnston and father to recent Husky graduate Julia Yllescas, was killed by Afghan insurgents in 2008.

Citywide garage sale draws 56 participants

Bargain hunters were out in mass Friday and Saturday throughout Aurora enjoying the third annual citywide garage sales event. Co-coordinator Jill Held said she and Angie Vetter have always enjoyed garage sales and decided in 2018 to launch a citywide effort.

Fire department in need of members

Aurora Fire Chief Tom Cox agrees that although the roster number at the Aurora Fire Department has stayed relatively the same in recent years the department still needs more volunteers -- especially those readily available to respond.

Steenson selected for UNK Teachers Scholars Academy

Forty students will receive full-tuition scholarships to attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney as members of the Teachers Scholars Academy. These recent high school graduates represent 33 communities in Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas. Their average ACT score is 23.

State Patrol begins 63rd Basic Recruit Camp

Grant Moody of Aurora has joined the 23 recruits who have started their journey to become troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP.) On July 6 at the NSP Training Academy in Grand Island, NSP began its 63rd Basic Recruit Camp.
