Storm causes tree damage

Storm damage swept through the county during a late night thunderstorm July 8. Pictured at left, the strong weather conditions tore down a large portion of a tree on N Street in Aurora. At right, a tree branch came to rest on top of a parked vehicle also located on N Street in Aurora.

Valuation changes draw 72 protests

A total of 72 Hamilton County residents protested their property valuation statements this year, though the county assessor said the review process completed last week went well, despite challenges created by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Hampton school plan not yet finalized due to COVID-19

The Hampton Public School Board discussed several issues Monday related to safety precautions that will be required to start the school year Aug. 12, ultimately realizing that it’s too soon to set policies and schedules in stone due to the rapidly changing status of the COVID pandemic.

Giltner Village Board approves CPI’s plan for new storage facility

The Giltner Village Board approved a conditional use permit Monday for CPI’s proposed commercial grain storage bunker, giving the company the green light to proceed with construction of a new 2-acre facility on the north edge of town.

HPC revisits athletic co-op options

During Monday’s High Plains Community School’s Board meeting the co-op committee presented information gained from a meeting with Osceola school officials. The board has been in talks with Osceola in regards to a possible athletic co-op for both high school and junior high students.

HPC looks to the fall, reopening

The High Plains Board of Education met in Clarks Monday to discuss the upcoming school year amid the uncertainty of the coronavirus. Board members and administrators looked at a number of options for resolutions that could be accepted for the 2020/21 academic year.
