Phillips to let bids for park upgrade

Most of the discussions at the September meeting of the Phillips Board of Trustees last Tuesday had to do with decisions to be finalized at the October meeting. Among the items discussed were new sidewalks and sprinklers for the village’s George Jensen Memorial Park.

The High Plains Community School Board approved its 2024-25 budget without incident during its regular meeting Monday night.According to HPC Supt. Jason Brown, there were no changes to the budget from what was finalized during its Aug. 26 special meeting and put out for publication.

Despite a last-minute suggested alteration to the plans from County Commissioner Francis McDonald, the board of commissioners on Monday voted to go forward with plans to begin a long-planned courthouse renovation and restoration project.

The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles has announced via its website that the driver licensing office located at the Hamilton County Courthouse in Aurora has been closed until further notice as of Sept. 4. The office is traditionally open between 9:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday.

The Aurora 4R School Board approved a flat $15.26 million budget for fiscal year 2024-25 Monday, noting that the tax levy will drop by 10 cents to 71 cents per $100 valuation due to a dramatic 14 percent increase in the district’s property valuation.
