DMV closes Aurora office
The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles has announced via its website that the driver licensing office located at the Hamilton County Courthouse in Aurora has been closed until further notice as of Sept. 4. The office is traditionally open between 9:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday.
The website offers as an alternative site for county drivers the office in York, which it said “will be open on Tuesdays from 8:30-4:30 to cover the closure.”
The site did not offer a reason for the closure, but simply stated that reasons might include “inclement weather, staff shortages, or other unforeseen complications.”
Department officials recently announced to county commissioners that the move of the facility several months ago from its previous location on the first floor of the courthouse, down the hall to the county Veterans Service office, was not working out due to the space limitations and the large number of applicants using the facility each week.
At the time of the announcement, commissioners expressed their frustration with the state over the situation. They said part of the reason for the overcrowding on Tuesdays at the office was because a large number of drivers were traveling over from Hall County to take their tests, which was inconveniencing county residents who needed to do business with the DMV.
