“In 2020 deputies had 114 traffic stops for the year,” Hamilton County Sheriff Jeromy McCoy announced during Monday’s Board of Commissioners meeting. “For 2021 that went up to 588. And in 2022 (there were) 1,836 with 554 tickets.

A large chunk of Monday’s Hamilton County Board of Commissioners meeting was occupied with discussion between board members and county sheriff Jeromy McCoy.  “In June I presented during budget that our in-car cameras had been purchased in 2011,” McCoy began.

Sheriff McCoy gives department update

A lengthy executive session to discuss “strategy of job assignment negotiations” took up the first two hours of Monday’s Hamilton County Board of Commissioners meeting. No action was taken upon exiting executive session.
The department budget had had that line item at $45,000, to though by the end of May the total had already surpassed that by $550.

Sheriff McCoy brings requests to county board

Fitted in his new uniform and having officially hit the streets of Hamilton County as its new sheriff, Jeromy McCoy approached the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners Monday to address a budget issue, report on staffing and get the approval to advertise for a few open positions in the department.

McCoy named county sheriff

The Hamilton County Board of Commissioners voted Monday to name Aurora resident Jeromy McCoy as the new Hamilton County Sheriff.  McCoy will start May 19 and will fill out the remainder of former sheriff Kirk Handrup’s term, which he vacated in April to celebrate retirement.
