16th Can Care-A-Van planned for Aug. 4

Another hallmark of summer in Hamilton County -- the Can Care-A-Van -- is ready and set to take off on Aug. 4. The 16th annual showing of community support for the local food pantry will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Jennifer Ediger knew in her mind’s eye the image she was hoping to capture. She and her husband Lowell had been to the pasture in Burwell many times, where she noticed hundreds of dragonflies hovering around a barbedwire fence.

The annual yellowing of some Kentucky bluegrass lawns has started. In other lawns, especially fescue turf, brown patches are appearing. Summer yellowing of Kentucky bluegrass is due to iron chlorosis, which is a lack of iron in plants but not necessarily a lack of iron in the soil.
